I don’t know about you, but checking my voicemail isn’t the highlight of my day. More often than not, I delete a long message halfway through. It’s terrible when a friend asks, “Did you receive my message?” …Then tests me: “What did I say at the very end?” My secret’s out; they know I deleted it.

The most successful recruiters go the distance! According to a 2015 PracticeLink survey of more than 600 physicians, 73% of job-seeking physicians are either looking to relocate or unsure about their location preferences. This makes actively recruiting outside your territory a wise recruitment move if you want to reach a broader pool of physicians and increase your brand awareness among potential candidates.
Happy Columbus Day!
Columbus Day is a U.S. holiday that commemorates the landing of Christopher Columbus in the New World on October 12, 1492. It did not become a federal holiday until 1937.
We have learned many things from the voyages of Christopher Columbus, and in my attempt to find a good segue into how his experiences can relate to physician recruitment, one thing stands out among the rest: Christopher Columbus was a tenacious navigator and explorer.
The definition of “explorer” is “a person who explores an unfamiliar area.” As physician recruiters, you’re exploring unfamiliar territory every day to find the best candidates for your organization and community. To achieve the results you need, you have to be creative, cast your net as far as possible, leave no stone unturned and venture into unknown territories.
So if you’re ever having a day when you need some encouragement or even a little pat on the back, remind yourself that it takes the same persistence and tenacity Christopher Columbus had to be successful in physician recruiting!
