Wondering what to expect as you recruit for different specialties? The PracticeLink Physician Recruitment Index is an indication of the relative ease or difficulty of recruitment for various specialties based on supply and demand information gathered by the PracticeLink system quarterly. The larger the “Jobs per candidate” number, the more difficult the search.
Most Challenging Specialties to Recruit
The Most Challenging to Recruit Specialties are those with the most jobs posted on PracticeLink per candidate in those specialties.
What’s new?
The Index remained fairly consistent this quarter. Surgery – Neurocritical Care claimed the top spot for the second quarter in a row, and only three specialties, Otolaryngology – Otologist, Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Oncology – Gynecological, made the top 15, replacing Teleradiology, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, and Oncology-Breast.
Most In-Demand Specialties
The Most In-Demand Specialties are those with the most jobs posted on PracticeLink and are ranked by hardest to recruit.
What’s new?
This quarter’s Index held quite steady with nine of the specialties not moving a single spot. Only six specialties moved at all, and none more than one spot in either direction: Gastroenterology, Urgent Care and Hospitalist each climbed one spot, and Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Internal Medicine each dropped one spot.
What’s next? After reading this Index, ask yourself:
- Do these Indexes match my recent experiences of recruiting for various specialties?
- Do I have unposted job opportunities to which I need to devote more resources and search time?
