Wondering what to expect as you recruit for different specialties? The PracticeLink Physician Recruitment Index is an indication of the relative ease or difficulty of recruitment for various specialties based on supply and demand information gathered by the PracticeLink system quarterly. The larger the “Jobs per candidate” number, the more difficult the search.

Most Challenging to Recruit Specialties

The Most Challenging to Recruit Specialties are those with the most jobs posted on PracticeLink per candidate in those specialties.

What’s new?

More than a third of the Index is new this quarter. Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, completely new to the Index, took the top spot, and Endocrinology - Reproductive, Ophthalmology - Retinal Surgery, Hepatology, Pediatrics - Intensivist, and Palliative Care also joined the list.

Most In-Demand Specialties

The Most In-Demand Specialties are those with the most jobs posted on PracticeLink and are ranked by hardest to recruit.

What’s new?

Neurology moved up two spots this quarter to claim the top spot on the Index. Otherwise the Index stayed fairly consistent overall with only one new specialty, Anesthesiology, making the top 15; only one, Otolaryngology, falling off the list; and only one, Urgent Care, moving more than two spots.

What’s next? After reading this Index, ask yourself:

  1. Do these Indexes match my recent experiences of recruiting for various specialties?
  2. Do I have unposted job opportunities to which I need to devote more resources and search time?
